In-Board Training

“Every interaction is a learning interaction”

Consistency is the number one tool in effective dog training. By having ThunderHawk Canine provide a consistent learning environment for your pet, they experience less confusion and much faster results than at home.  It also allows us to set them up for success – creating circumstances where the right answer is the only obtainable answer, ensuring reward.

All in-board dogs stay in Christie’s home for the duration of their training. This environment allows us to put the training into the environment that you need. Why choose Christie? Having gotten her start running the behavior programs for a progressive veterinary hospital in MI over 25 years ago, she brings a unique diversity of knowledge including both medical and behavior. With a degree in Zoology, concentration in Animal Behavior and Neurobiology, Christie understands the “science” and art of dog training. She has successfully worked rescue rehab, basic manners, in depth behavior modification (including our trusted veterinarian’s own pets and client referrals), sport, full patrol K9, therapy dog, service dog, and so much more. Most recently, Christie received her certification to teach Pet First Aid and CPR to others in the community. Christie brings an unmatched commitment to your pet’s healthy body and mind.

Complete Obedience Package

$3250

Our most popular in-board program consists of an almost 4 week stay and is for dogs 16 weeks and older. This base package includes sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay, come, loose leash walking, and “place” – performed on and off leash. Greeting skills are also addressed. This package includes the boarding, training, training equipment and in-home follow up to ensure results. This guaranteed, all-inclusive package has become Thunderhawk’s most popular and successful independent option.  By keeping our price low at $3250 for the complete package, we have been able to help a great number of local and out of state clients.

Highlights of the program – approximately 4 weeks of training. Motivational Foundation followed by gradual increase of distance, distraction and duration. Week 4 “Out and About Week” where we take your pup into various social settings to make sure things are functional. Unlimited follow-up to ensure you are working together as a team 🙂 On leash reliability of all commands, with off-Leash recalls and stays. A minimum of bi-weekly updates, and visits are welcomed. Check out our social media to see what our current dogs are up to.

Why four weeks? We believe that a solid, motivational foundation of skill sets is the fairest and clearest way to train a dog. Weeks one and two are spent on specific word association and high-value rewards. Week three is spent on introducing choices and accountability by gradually increasing distance, distraction and duration. And our famous week 4 is Out and About in the Community, ensuring that the training is functional where you need it most. This combination of a motivational teaching foundation, followed by gradually adding variables, allows us to build a confident dog who is happy to work with you.

In-Board dogs generally begin the program on Sundays or Mondays (although we can certainly be flexible), and all graduates end with a graduating class where your instructor will go over everything that your pup has learned and how to maintain it at home. From there, our commitment to you is for the life of your pup.

Owners interested in in-board training must sign up for a virtual private session first. This will allow us to determine appropriate goals and expectations. Payment received during the consult will be held as a deposit towards your training program.

Please note, our Complete Obedience In-Board Program is often booked 2-3 months in advance. It never hurts to see if we have something available sooner, but please plan ahead to get the best training your pup deserves!

Complete Obedience Package Add-Ons are available to clients who wish to increase the skill sets taught to their dog while they stay. Don’t see something that you would like addressed? Let us know. Goals of each add-on will be discussed on a case by case basis.

Aggression add on

Managing Aggression

Starting at $400

Aggressive behavior is communication. That said, it is often dangerous communication that requires in-depth modification. This program is for the owner looking to manage aggression problems in their dog. Each aggression case is discussed on a case by case basis, with additional cost starting at $400 to allow for safe, individual handling.

Please note – Thunderhawk Canine does not teach personal protection training in the context of In-Board.

Aggression add on

Ring A Bell

$150

Ringing a bell has become a popular skill to help dogs communicated that they need to go outside. This add on teaches the dog to move the bell on command, and begins to introduce the dog to the concept that the bell causes the door to open. The actual pairing of the bell to potty behavior is something that is implemented with owners, through follow ups, once the dog is at home.

Canine Good Citizen

This additional group of skills will include obedience behaviors that will be helpful to the Service Dog. It will include brace, tuck in, and under. These behaviors will assist in public access. It does not guarantee the suitability of a dog as a Service Dog, nor are these tasks considered Service Dog Tasks as dictated by the ADA.

In-Board Training at the daily rate

$125 per Day

This service can be used for a shorter duration to address specific skills. Pre-evaluation is required via a virtual consultation to create a training plan before intake. Shorter duration in-boards could be helpful to build a motivational foundation to many behaviors, or in-depth training of just one or two. Upon completion, clients will again meet with a certified trainer to discuss how to maintain the progress that has occurred. The daily in-board program is an excellent way to make your vacations productive for your pet too.

Owners interested in daily in-board training must sign up for a virtual private session first. This will allow us to determine appropriate goals and expectations. If you choose to book in-board from there, the cost of this session is taken off of your in-board tuition.

Whether you are looking for a complete obedience package, or just some educational time while your family vacations, every dog thrives in the In-Board Training Program!
